I spent the day before the
November [2005] Council Meeting working with the
NZSG librarian on the Māori resources.
1.
I gave Alison a list of requested titles which
will be purchased in due course.
2.
The Māori books have all been placed together in
one place instead of being distributed
throughout the general New Zealand collection.
This will make Whakapapa research
much easier.
3.
The Māori Interest Group now has its own
designated shelves. The material belongs to the
group but is open for members to consult. Items
are reference only. This is a great improvement
as this material was difficult for our members
to access when it was stored in my home.
Material here includes all back
issues of the newsletter from issue no.1. Also
all our resources which are listed in the
Archives index. These are in separate labeled
folders. Also back numbers of Pipiwharauroa,
Taonui MSS, How to Begin Whakapapa Research etc.
4.
In a storage bin labeled MIG are all the photos,
correspondence, list of offices who have been on
MIG Committee, AGM mins, and other records. By
storing these records at the FRC we avoid the
trouble and expense of moving them round the
country when MIG committee members change.
Do remember to use your library.
It has many valuable resources and is available
to all NZSG members.
If you cannot get to the library you can borrow
books through the post and volunteers at the FRC
will do look-ups for you.
