DAC Results, Scratch Racing, Thu 11th July 2024

Eleven DAC Sailors enjoyed a beautiful winter’s day. The temperature managed to approach 20oC with a light (very) NW to NE breeze. We waited for a zephyr at the start and got the first few races underway with drifting conditions.  The breeze appeared from the North East and was just right for our “A” sails.

Graham Brown quickly adjusted to the early lack of wind and proceeded to win, tie for first or come second in the next six races. Graham was a clear winner, scoring a meagre 8.5 points. Martin Thearle spent most of his time at the front of the fleet. Four places scored  24 points as Martin led a close bunch into second place. Phil Stevenson won race 5 and tied race 7 with Graham to secure third place overall.

There was much competition on the water. There were no frustrated calls of “starboard” etc., in all it was a very pleasant day’s sailing with a great atmosphere. There were no rescues required and all boats started and finished all races. Now that has to be a record!

The scoring from second and on was fairly close as most Sailors scored in the front half at some stage.

Race winners were Graham Brown 3 plus a tie, Phil Stevenson 1 plus a tie, Lew Verdon 1 and Noel McPherson 1.

Graham Brown took the honours for the day to win 1st place on 8.5 points.

Martin Thearle finished in 2nd place on 24 points.

Phil Stevenson finished in 3rd place with 24.5 points.

The Club Championship now has Graham Brown in front from Phil Stevenson and Robin Tickner.

Our next Sail day is Thursday 18th July for a Scratch Event.
