DAC Results, Scratch Racing, Thu 25th July 2024
Today, before the start of racing, I briefed our Sailors on the outcome of a motion I put forward to the Dobroyd Aquatic Club 2024 AGM.
The retirement of Noel McPherson from the position of our Class Captain was a quiet affair which I felt was deserving of high recognition.
The motion was a recommendation for Life Membership of Dobroyd Aquatic Club. This is in recognition of Noel’s outstanding service to the Club itself, our Division of RC Lasers and to all our Sailors, on behalf of our RC Laser Sailors.
The Motion was very well supported by the Committee and was unanimously voted for by the DAC Members at the AGM.
On hearing this today, there was a hearty round of well-deserved applause for Noel, with a thank you from all.
It was a very good turnout of 18 Sailors for our Scratch racing event.
The skies were partly overcast and the temperature reached 22oC. The wind was mostly from the North with the occasional swing left and right. A wind speed of 10 up to 21 Km/Hr, (6 to 11 Knots) called for “C” sails which were mostly used.
It’s unusual for the day’s winner to not win a race. Graham Brown set another “record’ to take the day with 5 second places a third and 2 fourths. This gave Graham a score of 21 points and first place. Hot on Graham’s heels was Phil Stevenson. Four wins and a place would normally be enough, Phil scored 22 points for a close second. Peter Burton is making the most of his long drive to join us. Two wins and four places comfortably locked in third with a score of 26.5 points. Stephen Deane may have well been in the top three. A scoresheet deficiency caused an average place for 2 races, his 2 wins and three places left Stephen just outside the top three. The following scores were fairly tight. Noel McPherson had a win and 2 places . All Noel’s finishes were in the front half of the fleet.
The top half of the page snared all the wins and places. Many others scored a high finish or two which made for competitive sailing.
Race winners were Phil Stevenson 4, Peter Burton 2, Stephen Deane 2, Noel McPherson 1 and Rob Lowndes 1.
Graham Brown took the honours for the day to win 1st place on 21 points.
Phil Stevenson finished in 2nd place on 22 points.
Peter Burton finished in 3rd place with 26.5 points.
The Club Championship now has Graham Brown in front from Phil Stevenson and Judy Evans.
Our next Sail day is Thursday 1st August for a Handicap Event.
