DAC Results, Scratch Racing, Thu 24th October 2024

Yesterday saw another great turnout for our Scratch sailing day.
Seventeen sailors enjoyed temps in the low 20’s which cooled a little towards the end of sailing.
The breeze was unfortunately from the South East, but we all appeared to be comfortable sailing from the jetty.
Quote, “we can almost touch the boats”.
“C” sails were the choice and worked well in the occasional fluky conditions with the windspeed peaking at 27 Km/Hr., (14 Knots).
I set a course to the West which didn’t last. Resetting to the East worked well with refinements by Graham Brown and later by Phil Stevenson.
Thank you Gents.
The sailing got underway with Graham Brown and Phil Stevenson dominating. Sailing alongside them goes well until you blink, and they’re gone! Each scored 2 wins and several places, with Graham winning the day, scoring 11 points. Phil came home second with 19 points. Brendan Hones is continuing his good form with a win and a couple of places for third on the day. The scores following Brendan were quite close. Robin Tickner and Stephen Deane always compete well, with a countback deciding fourth and fifth places. Geoff Lucas has some bright and shiny new sails and is using them very well. Geoff is up the front on many occasions as his 4 places indicate. Rob Lowndes had all his finishes in the front group and won race 8 comfortably from Geoff. Trevor Bowden is relatively new to RC sailing and got off to a blazing start to come second in Race 1. Apart from Trevor, the places went not much further down the page.
In all, it was a good, competitive day’s sailing
Race winners were Graham Brown 2, Phil Stevenson 2, Brendan Hones 1, Stephen Deane 2 and Rob Lowndes 1.
Graham Brown took the honours for the day to win 1st place on 11 points.
Phil Stevenson finished in 2nd place on 19 points.
Brendan Hones finished in 3rd place with 22 points.
The Club Championship now has Graham Brown in front from Phil Stevenson and Martin Thearle.
Our next Sail day is Thursday for a Scratch Event.
