DAC Results, Scratch Racing, Thu 31st October 2024

Dobroyd-RC-Lasers-20241031

Today, fourteen DAC Sailors came along for a sail.

The smell of Summer was in the air again as we enjoyed an Easterly breeze at 11 up to 27 Km/Hr., (6 to 14 Knots).

It did ease off later during our racing which gave some tricky lulls. The temperature peaked at 27oC with a light chop around the windward mark.

There was the occasional bit of weed. Unfortunately Robin Tickner suffered some between races which brought great sympathy from all. It was an emotional time!

“B” sails became “C” ‘s for most races.

Phil Stevenson had 4 wins and a place to seal a good win for the day. A few times, Phil started in the back group but each time he was able to read the conditions well and finish way up front. Stephen Deane is showing his top form from recent days with 3 firsts and a second to claim second place. Graham Brown spent quite some time assisting others ashore with boat issues. Despite the distraction, Graham still managed 5 places to score 17 points and lock in third place.

Rob Lowndes had a very good day to score well in the front group. Rob’s win in race 7 with a couple of places was a good end to his day. All this with a prang and dismasting in race 2, no permanent damage suffered. Robin Tickner was also well up with the front group of Sailors, his best, a second in race 6. Places went well down the scoresheet, with Noel McPherson, Richard Thorpe, Lew Verdon and Geoff Lucas featuring there.

In all, a good day’s sailing. The developing chop caused congestion at the top mark as the leeway was underread by many boats. The windward mark suffered a bit.

Race winners were Phil Stevenson 4, Stephen Deane 3 and Rob Lowndes 1.

Phil Stevenson took the honours for the day to win 1st place on 11 points.

Stephen Deane finished in 2nd place on 14 points.

Graham Brown finished in 3rd place with 17 points.

The Club Championship now has Graham Brown in front from Phil Stevenson and Martin Thearle.

Our next Sail day is Thursday 7th November for a Handicap Event.
