Another good turnout for today’s Scratch racing event. Sixteen DAC Sailors came along for a sail.

The wind direction which does give us some grief is the old South Easterly, and today was it, again.

We offer our warm thanks to Judy Evans and Phil Stevenson. Judy and Phil donated some new marks, galvanised chains and attaching ropes.

These enabled us to set 2 complete courses to the left and right of the Clubhouse and gave us the quick option to change as the breeze swung.

The Club weather station recorded S to SSE at 12 to 31 Km/Hr., (7 to 16 Knots). It was overcast but dry with a temperature in the low 20’s.

And after all that, Phil most kindly set both courses.

We all chose “B” sails with a couple of “C” ‘s having a look at some stage.

The wind was a tricky one to contend with but we managed 8 races in good time.

Phil Stevenson found the conditions to his liking and won 4 races and had 2 second places. Phil scored 8 points to win the day. Graham Brown and Stephen Deane were the nearest contenders. Graham had 3 wins and 2 places to score 12 points and secure second place. Stephen took the last available win, and with 4 places and 16 points, completed the top three.

Martin Thearle is consistently scoring well and this is reflected in his current third place in the Club Championship. Richard Thorpe, Robin Tickner and Judy Evans filled many spots in the front half of the Fleet and Bruce Paterson and Lew Verdon both had good days on the water with a few finishes in the front end.

Philip Hetherington and myself normally have a good contest on the water, today we each suffered repeated gear and servo failures and comfortably locked in 15th and 16th places.

Race winners were Phil Stevenson 4, Graham Brown 3 and Stephen Deane 1.

Phil Stevenson took the honours for the day to win 1st place on 8 points.

Graham Brown finished in 2nd place on 12 points.

Stephen Deane finished in 3rd place with 16 points.

The Club Championship now has Graham Brown in front from Phil Stevenson and Martin Thearle.

Our next Sail day is Thursday 21st November for a Scratch Event.
