DAC Results, Scratch Racing, Thu 28th August 2025

Fourteen DAC Sailors attended yesterday for a very blustery day on the water.
True to forecast, we had a Westerly ranging from 23 to 57 Km/Hr., (13 to 30 Knots) from our weather station.
An actual reading was 67Km/Hr. in a gust or 36 Knots. Well over my limit.
A and B sails stayed in the car and the C’s stayed on the Deck, well anchored down. D’s featured all day.
The temperature sat around 19oC and a moderate chop developed.
Starting was tricky. D sails don’t like lulls and one always appeared at start time. It was a hard slog to the windward marks but a rapid run downhill.
The were only a few contacts as each boat decided early to take avoidance action, if needed. Well done Folks!
The Fleet had many of the weekend’s entrants for the Australian Championship. A betting man would view the results keenly.
Our Champion for the day was Robin Tickner. Robin’s score of 20 points included 2 wins a place and all finishes at 5 or better.
The field, once again, had such close scoring with the first six boats having a spread of only 7 points. Three were settled by a countback.
Phil Stevenson led the charge for second place. Phil had a win and 4 places, only a 13th in race 2 kept him back after a tangle. Lew Verdon sailed consistently well with a win and 2 places, Rob Lowndes was right amongst it with equal points. Phil, Lew and Rob each totalling 23 points. My computer chewed up a few ergs sorting that out. Graham Brown won race 5 and also had all finishes at 6 or better. Noel McPherson and Stephen Deane also had all their finishes in the front half, a win for Stephen there.
And the high finishes continued. Geoff Lucas won race 2 and Ron Garner won race 7. Maybe Ron’s first win on a scratch day, good job there Ron.
Race winners were Robin Tickner 2, Phil Stevenson 1, Lew Verdon 1, Graham Brown 1, Stephen Deane 1, Geoff Lucas 1 and Ron Garner 1.
Robin Tickner took the honours for the day to win 1st place on 20 points.
Phil Stevenson finished in 2nd place on 23 points after a countback.
Lew Verdon finished in 3rd place with 23 points after a countback.
Rob Lowndes finished in 4th Place with 23 points after a countback
The Club Championship now has Graham Brown in front from Phil Stevenson and Martin Thearle..
Our next Sail day is Thursday 4th September for a Handicap Event.
