Fourteen DAC Sailors, despite the inclement forecast, came along for our regular Handicap racing day yesterday.

The weather was Winter doing its best. The temperature reached 15oC and we had a blustery Southerly at 8 up to 22 Km/Hr, (5 to 12 Knots). There was a moderate overcast. It was a day for “C” sails.

It was dry until the end of race 9. As we readied for number 10, the skies opened up and a wind squall estimated at well over the recorded 22 Km/hr. flattened the fleet. We then decided that was enough for the day.

It was cold on the Deck but the occasional rays of sunshine were most welcome. Everyone was well rugged up with only one hardy soul in shorts.

Our Champion of the day was Stephen Deane. A win and 2 second places gave Stephen a score of 27 points and first place. Richard Thorpe enjoyed the bluster on the water and was able to sail well clear and take 3 wins. Closely following was Rob Lowndes scoring 30 points. Rob also had a win and 2 places for third place overall.

Once again the Handicaps did their job with few points between first and last positions. There were 3 countbacks to settle 4th and 5th, 7th and 8th and 9th and 10th.

Thank heavens for the HMS program!

Race winners were Stephen Deane 1, Richard Thorpe 3, Rob Lowndes 1, Lew Verdon 2, Phil Stevenson 1 and Philip Hetherington 1.

Stephen Deane took the honours for the day to win 1st place on 27 points.

Richard Thorpe finished in 2nd place on 29 points.

Rob Lowndes finished in 3rd place with 30 points.

The Club Championship now has Graham Brown in front from Phil Stevenson and Judy Evans.

Our next Sail day is Thursday 8th August for a Scratch Event.
