DAC Results, Handicap Racing, Thu 3rd July 2025

Well, with the terrible weather we all suffered earlier this week and the initial forecast that it may carry over to Thursday’s sailing, what a surprise.
It was a beautiful winter’s afternoon to be enjoyed by thirteen DAC Sailors. The temperature reached 18oC and the expected heavy Sou’Wester moderated to 16 with gusts to 39 Km/Hr., perfect for C sails, (9 to 20 Knots).
To complete the picture we had a full tide for our racing.
The initial set course had to be swung around. It was then right for the day, nice work Graham. Thanks also to Mick Costa for our scoring.
I revised all our handicaps as the spread was becoming almost unworkable. In essence, the range was somewhat reduced. There appeared no real advantage or disadvantage to anyone. The result is shown in the scoresheet and worked out nicely with no complaints or furrowed brows.
Ron Garner started with a scratch time and quickly settled in for a good day’s sailing. Ron won the day with 2 firsts and 2 places to score 35 points. Coming home in second place, Judy Evans had a moderate handicap similar to many others. Judy had 3 places and all high finishes to score 37 points. Richard Thorpe completed the top three with 38 points to earn 3rd place. Richard won races 1 and 8 and placed in race 3.
The points spread over all boats was the closest in a long time. The wins ranged from first to last place and everyone had good and not so good finishes.
The finish line was very crowded for most races, scoring was a challenge but with everyone’s help it all worked out well.
Another record too, only 1 DNF in ten races.
Race winners were Ron Garner 2, Richard Thorpe 2, Rob Lowndes 1, Philip Hetherington 1, Martin Thearle 1, Lew Verdon 2 and Paula Reilly 1.
Ron Garner took the honours for the day to win 1st place on 35 points.
Judy Evans finished in 2nd place on 37 points.
Richard Thorpe finished in 3rd place with 38 points.
The Club Championship now has Graham Brown in front from Phil Stevenson and Noel McPherson.
Our next Sail day is Thursday 10th July for a Scratch Event.
