DAC Results, Handicap Racing, Thu 5th December 2024

A beautiful summers day greeted 16 sailors for handicap racing yesterday. The forecast was outdone and a gentle ENE breeze was present, at the start, and built through the day to finish with a good 12 knot NE with a small chop to make things interesting.
B sails were the sail of choice for all sailors and as per most handicap days, the sailing was generally close, in the mid fleet, with the occasional runaway leader and a few big gaps to the tail.
Thanks to Jill for doing a great job with the scoring and race winners calling the positions, ensuring the racing progressed smoothly.
9 races were completed on a good sized course with only 1 rescue required – a good day.
Brendan Hones found himself with a generous starting handicap and took full advantage to set a cracking pace with good placings in the early races, hotly pursued by Paula Reilly. Noel McPherson started slowly but together a consistent back half of racing to move up the ladder.
The handicaps kicked in and the race winners were spread over half the fleet including a win for our new member, Tom Dwan and 2 wins for our newest member, Trevor Bowden – well done gents.
The finishes were very close with some races having the majority of sailors completing the race within seconds of each other.
Great sailing all.
Race winners were Brendan Hones 2, Paula Reilly 1, Trevor Bowden 2, Judy Evans 1, Tom Dwan 1, Geoff Lucas 1 and Graham Brown 1.
Brendan Hones took the honours for the day to win 1st place on 24 points.
Paula Reilly finished in 2nd place on 33 points.
Noel McPherson finished in 3rd place also with 36 points, settled by a countback.
The Club Championship now has Graham Brown in front from Phil Stevenson and Martin Thearle.
Our next Sail day is Thursday 12th December for a Scratch Event.
