DAC Results, Handicap Racing, Thu 5th June 2025

Dobroyd RC Lasers 20250605

Thirteen DAC Sailors spent a very pleasant afternoon by the water.

The Deck was a bit of a suntrap and gave us 18oC with a gentle Southerly breeze and smooth waters.

Sail choice could have been A to C. We used a mix of A’s and B’s throughout the day.

Another successful Handicap day. We all had our good moments with the handicaps again proving to be the great leveller. The scores were spread evenly with the first 5 boats within 4 points.

Today’s winner is Rob Lowndes. Rob enjoyed a modest start time which rapidly increased as his successes continued. Two firsts and 2 places gave Rob a score of 18 points. Narelle Derwent sailed well all day to score 20 points and second place. All Narelle’s finishes were in the front group with her first and 2 places. Lew Verdon was another Sailor to score well. Lew won race 6 and with his 2 places scored 21 points to come home a close third. Martin Thearle (2 wins) and Judy Evans (a win) scored equally and completed the top group of five. Martin benefitted from a countback to secure fourth place, Judy fifth.

Brendan Hones is always a handy competitor. Brendan won race 5 and with his 2 places was unfortunate not to finish higher on the list. Peter Burton had the longest handicap and to place twice was quite an achievement. Graham Brown and Noel McPherson were in the same boat, so to speak. Each had to wade through the Fleet to finish well.

It was a good racing day. All sailed well with the long markers having quite a battle to feature.

Race winners were Rob Lowndes 2, Narelle Derwent 1, Lew Verdon 1, Martin Thearle 2, Judy Evans 1 and Brendan Hones 1.

Rob Lowndes took the honours for the day to win 1st place on 18 points.

Narelle Derwent finished in 2nd place on 20 points.

Lew Verdon finished in 3rd place with 21 points.

The Club Championship now has Graham Brown in front from Phil Stevenson and Noel McPherson.

Our next Sail day is Thursday 12th June for a Scratch Event.
