DAC Results, Handicap Racing, Thu 6th February 2025

A good turnout yesterday with the hint of a Nor’Easter in the forecast.
Sixteen DAC Sailors came along for our ever popular Handicap racing day.
The breeze had a bit of Sou’Easter at the start but it gradually developed to the forecast of 7 to 21 Km/Hr., (4 to 10 Knots) from the East.
We all chose “B” sails for the duration and enjoyed a balmy 29oC.
The course produced some very light patches where we sometimes wished for an “A”. The occasional dark grey puff cancelled those thoughts.
The handicapping again worked surprisingly well. After a few races, there were groups of up to 8 boats starting within seconds of each other. That would continue to the finish.
Our procedure is to adjust handicaps after each race, a great leveller!
Our Champion of the day was Martin Thearle. From a medium handicap of 45 seconds, Martin sailed consistently well to earn 2 wins and a second place, scoring 25 points.
Close behind was Bruce Paterson. Scoring 27 points Bruce came home in second place. Phil Stevenson seemed to start a day later with a handicap of 85 seconds. Phil still managed to sail through the Fleet and score 28 points with 3 places and secure 3rd place overall.
The scoresheet tells the day’s story with few points between all positions and very close racing.
Places went right down the page with Robin Tickner, Graham Brown, Geoff Lucas, Rob Lowndes, Brian Chapman (a win), Trevor Bowden (a win), Narelle Derwent (a win), Judy Evans (a win) and Paula Reilly featuring.
Race winners were Martin Thearle 2, Bruce Paterson 1, Brian Chapman 1, Trevor Bowden, 1 Narelle Derwent 1 and Judy Evans 1 and Noel McPherson 1.
Martin Thearle took the honours for the day to win 1st place on 25 points.
Bruce Paterson finished in 2nd place on 27 points.
Phil Stevenson finished in 3rd place with 28 points.
The Club Championship now has Robin Tickner in front from Graham Brown and Noel McPherson.
Our next Sail day is Thursday 13th February for a Scratch Event.
