DAC Results, Handicap Racing, Thu 6th November 2025
Sixteen DAC Sailors came along for the favourite Handicap racing today.
We welcomed Robin’s friend Tony Merewether, who hails from the mother country; but we tried hard not to hold that against him.
The conditions were pleasant with a temperature hovering around 23oC, but it was cold in the wind and hot out of it. The nor’easter kicked in around 12.30 p.m. and settled in ranging from 13 to 20 knots
This caused a wide range of sails to be set, starting with a very delicate A, then quickly B sail and finally we all ended up on C sails.
It was just starting to get really interesting at the end of sailing. The wind, together with a very low tide made for some really interesting wave action.
It being handicap racing, it was decided not to run with race officers; and it was surprising how well (relatively speaking) it went.
The course was set up and down in front of the deck, with the top marks to one side of the pylons of the pontoon, and the bottom marks to the other side. This made for a lot of foot traffic up and down the deck, as there was a greater than normal distance between the bottom marks and the finish line… you really had to think about that leg as well.”
Congratulations to Peter Hirschl with a win in race 1.
Race winners were Noel McPherson 1, Geoff Lucas 3, Lew Verdon 1, Martin Thearle 1, Trevor Bowden 1 and Peter Hirschl 1.
Karen Paterson took the honours for the day to win 1st place on 24 points.
Noel McPherson finished in 2nd place on 26 points.
Phil Stevenson finished in 3rd place with 26 points settled by a countback.
The Club Championship now has Graham Brown in front from Phil Stevenson and Martin Thearle.
Our next Sail day is Thursday 13th November for a Scratch Event.
