Summer is here!

Today we had twelve DAC Sailors come along for our Handicap racing day.

We enjoyed temperatures in the mid twenties and a steady Nor’Easter at 5 to 15 Km/Hr, (3 to 8 Knots). It did seem stronger at times.

A light chop developed which was of little consequence and the sky was mostly overcast.

A couple of “B” sails came out initially but as the wind strengthened we all used “C” ‘s.

We sailed from the ramp and pontoon due to renovation works on the decks around the Clubhouse.

Being so close to our boats was something new, almost like being on board.

Our Champion for the day was John Porter. John won three races and with a second place in race 4, he scored 30 points to take the day’s honours. I couldn’t crack a win but was content to have some good finishes to come home in second place with 36 points. Brendan Hones won the first race and with most finishes in the front group scored 38 points. Brendan has been sailing well on recent Scratch days and backed this up with third place today.

After John’s first place, the following scores were all quite close with a countback for fourth and fifth places. Only 18 points separating 11 boats indicates the closeness and that the handicaps are all pretty close to the mark.

Wins and places went to everyone and the final handicaps are also bunching up well.

Race winners were John Porter 3, Brendan Hones 1, Robin Tickner 1, Richard Thorpe 2, Philip Hetherington 2 and Lew Verdon 1.

John Porter took the honours for the day to win 1st place on 30 points.

Brian Chapman finished in 2nd place on 36 points.

Brendan Hones finished in 3rd place with 38 points.

The Club Championship now has Graham Brown in front from Noel McPherson and Phil Stevenson.

Our next Sail day is Thursday 14th December for a Scratch Event.
