What a Fleet, 20 DAC Sailors for a racing day, terrific!

And after that, a pretty good Autumn day for our Scratch sailing with a max 27^oC to enjoy.

The start of the day was slow with no wind at all, so we socialized ‘til around 1.30 pm  or so.

Several of us drifted around for a bit and a gentle zephyr appeared. We all hit the water with A sails.

The initial breeze was 4 Km/Hr., (3 Knots) with a peak gust of 9, (5 Knots).

We stayed with our A sails although a B or 2 made their appearance later on.

For a fleet numbering 20, our sailing was a great competitive day on the water with many boats in contention for high honours.

Our four top sailors set a high standard for the day. Phil Stevenson, Graham Brown, Peter Burton and Stephen Deane grabbed all the first places.

Many other sailors had places and the points difference right down the page was minimal. Once again, every place earned counts and can move one several steps up or down the scoresheet.

Our day’s winner was Phil Stevenson who just held Graham Brown back by a point. Peter Burton was the only close challenger coming home in third place. Stephen Deane’s 2 wins in races 3 and 4 kept the remaining boats well at bay with Martin Thearle heading many close competitors.

Our course was a little shorter than normal as we had a late start and were aiming for at least 8 races. The result was heavy congestion around the first windward mark. There were some minor misjudgements but everyone handled this well and this produced a good day’s sailing.

Race winners were Phil Stevenson 3, Graham Brown 2, Peter Burton 1 and Stephen Deane 2.

Phil Stevenson took the honours for the day to win 1st place on 13 points.

Graham Brown finished in 2nd place on 14 points.

Peter Burton finished in 3rd place with 16 points.

The Club Championship now has Phil Stevenson in front from Graham Brown and Robin Tickner.

Our next Sail day is Thursday 17^th April for a Scratch Event.
