DAC Results, Scratch Racing, Thu 12th December 2024

It was such a beautiful day for sailing. We were blessed with a Nor’Easter which started and finished the day at 13 and peaked about mid racing at 28 Km/Hr., (7 to 15 Knots). The temperature began at 33oC and gradually reduced to 25oC as the breeze steadied.
Thirteeen DAC Sailors came along to enjoy the great conditions.
We chose “B” sails at the start and finish, with a change to “C” ’s about the middle.
Our thanks to Ken Woodward who volunteered to score for us, as his boat had servo issues. Thanks also to Phil Stevenson who retrieved the buoys at the end of play.
Completing the HMS scoresheet is an interesting exercise. When one name appears as a consistent race winner, you get the feeling that the day is his, but not so.
Our champion for the day is Rob Lowndes who scored 19 points. Rob won 2 races and had 3 places to top the sheet. Also having a pretty good day on the water, Stephen Deane won 5 races. As good as that is, Stephen scored 21 points to come home in second place for the day. Phil Stevenson had a win and 3 places to secure third. Judy Evans (5 places) completed a closely matched group of four at the top of the list, only a point or two between them.
The perfect conditions gave us very competitive sailing. Any infringements were quickly and quietly settled. Places went right down the page with Martine Thearle, Noel McPherson, Brian Chapman, Lew Verdon and John Porter featuring.
Race winners were Rob Lowndes 2, Stephen Deane 5, Phil Stevenson 1 and Martin Thearle 1.
Rob Lowndes took the honours for the day to win 1st place on 19 points.
Stephen Deane finished in 2nd place on 21 points.
Phil Stevenson finished in 3rd place with 23 points.
The Club Championship now has Graham Brown in front from Phil Stevenson and Martin Thearle.
Our next Sail day is Thursday 19th December for a Scratch Event.
