DAC Results, Scratch Racing, Thu 13th February 2025

Yesterday, we received our request for a Nor’Easter.
The forecast was 25 to 43 Km/Hr but the 25 was missing. We had whitecaps on a developing chop.
Sixteen DAC Sailors endured a “breeze” which hovered around 52 Km/Hr. (28 Knots), all afternoon.
The temperature reached 26oC and we chose “D” sails, no option was considered.
The buoys needed extra weights to hold fast and did the job well.
A falling tide presented some problems. Any lack of attention between races was heavily penalised with either running aground or being blown under the Deck.
Apart from the above, with great assistance from all, we managed to complete 9 races.
Phil Stevenson had a very good day. Phil had mostly average starts but read the conditions well enough to secure 2 wins and 5 second places. He scored 12 points to be the day’s champion. Stephen Deane was right on Phil’s tail all day to earn 3 firsts and 3 second places. Only 1 aberration, dare I say a fourth gave Stephen 13 points and second place on the day. Graham Brown was the only other real contender in the top group of 3. Graham, on one occasion, sailed one wave too many before tacking only to be driven into the shallows. He still managed 3 wins to come home third with 17 points.
The sailing was hard work, but all seemed to enjoy the challenge. Assessing when to tack to lay the windward mark gave us all something to think about. We learned well. To complete a race was an achievement and many sailors had finishes well into the front half of the fleet.
Places were again well spread. Those reaching a top 3 finish were Rob Lowndes (a win), Noel McPherson, Brian Chapman, Judy Evans and Martin Thearle.
Race winners were Phil Stevenson 2, Stephen Deane 3, Graham Brown 3 and Rob Lowndes 1.
Phil Stevenson took the honours for the day to win 1st place on 12 points.
Stephen Deane finished in 2nd place on 13 points.
Graham Brown finished in 3rd place with 17 points.
The Club Championship now has Phil Stevenson in front from Graham Brown and Robin Tickner.
Our next Sail day is Thursday 20th February for a Scratch Event.
