DAC Results, Scratch Racing, Thu 15th August 2024

It was one of those testing days of sailing at DAC. This put us in good stead for our State Titles on this coming Sunday.
We had a fleet of 17 Sailors who came along for some scratch racing.
The wind hovered around the South to South East at 5 up to 23 Km/hr., (3 to 12 Knots). A heavy overcast allowed the temperature to almost reach 20oC and this gave us a pleasant day by the water. The wind called for “A” sails although a few “B” ‘s had a go.
The occasional bursts of sunlight decreased our visibility somewhat. The wind also gave us continual challenges with some lulls which seemed to appear from nowhere. At other times an odd gust would make the downwind legs difficult.
Graham Brown had to work hard to just keep Peter Burton at bay. Two wins and five places was a great score for Graham giving him 14 points and first place. Peter won 4 races, I’d take that anytime. Peter came home in second place with 15 points. Phil Stevenson won 2 races with 2 places, to take third for the day. Gear issues kept Phil out of a race but a quick repair and a spectacular launch from the deck gave him second place in race 6. It was worthy of applause.
Martin Thearle had a good day on the water. He led the rest of the fleet with 4 places and all finishes in the front group.
The top half of Sailors all scored their finishes towards the front. The exception being Lew Verdon who placed in race 8 and Rob Lowndes who won race 3.
It was generally hard work but the scores were not that far apart, once again, great competitive sailing.
Race winners were Graham Brown 2, Peter Burton 4, Phil Stevenson 2 and Rob Lowndes 1.
Graham Brown took the honours for the day to win 1st place on 14 points.
Peter Burton finished in 2nd place on 15 points.
Phil Stevenson finished in 3rd place with 23.5 points.
The Club Championship now has Graham Brown in front from Phil Stevenson and Judy Evans.
Our next Sail day is Thursday 22nd August for a Scratch Event.
