It’s good to be back on deck again.

Thank you Noel McPherson for once again coming out of retirement. A superb job as always.

Conditions for yesterday’s racing were as good as it gets. The Sou’Easter was fairly steady all day with the speed ranging from 9 up to 22 Km/Hr., (5 to 12 Knots), We enjoyed a temp of 18oC.

We opted for a course away from the Club and to the East. It became a “wet launching” for a change but the higher ground gave us a good view of the course.

We chose a mix of B and C sails for the day.

Thanks yet again to Mick Costa who scored for the day. We had Mick off his chair several times with general recalls but we behaved after that.

The racing was very close all day with many boats having some good results at some stage. Although the wins were dominated by the top positions, places were spread right down the scoresheet.

The day’s champion was Martin Thearle scoring 15 points. Martin had 3 wins and 4 places  to completely dominate the day’s racing, he had to drop a 4th and 7th. Graham Brown took one race to get going but settled in to his top style to take 4 firsts and 2 places, to score 23 points and second place. Noel McPherson had a good day on the water to secure third place. Noel won race 5 and with his 3 places scored 28 points.

There was a bit of daylight to those following with Judy Evans leading the charge. Judy had a third in race 8 and with three 4th places and managed to keep many close contenders at bay. Robin Tickner won race 6, Brian Chapman was happy with his return with a 3rd place in a hot field. John Hickey is continuing his good form to win race 1 and to place in races 8 and 9. John’s win just pipped Lew Verdon in a countback. Rob Widders started the day well with a second place in race 1 but just backed off after that. There was a three way tie for tenth place. This was settled by Phil Lucas sailing father Geoff’s boat #53. Ron Garner and Philip Hetherington took the following places after the countback.

Phil Lucas passed on that Geoff Lucas has had successful surgery and is recovering very well. Best wishes Geoff, hope to see you back here when you are ready.

Race winners were Martin Thearle 3, Graham Brown 4, Noel McPherson 1, Robin Tickner 1 and John Hickey 1.

Martin Thearle took the honours for the day to win 1st place on 15 points.

Graham Brown finished in 2nd place on 23 points.

Noel McPherson finished in 3rd place with 28 points.

The Club Championship now has Martin Thearle in front from Phil Stevenson and Graham Brown.

Our next Sail day is Thursday 24th September for a Scratch Event.
