DAC Results, Scratch Racing, Thu 18th July 2024

Thursday was Winter at its best.
It was a cool sunny day with a max temp of 18oC. The wind was mostly from the West with a little South West at times.
The wind speed ranged from 5 to 15 Km/Hr, (3 to 8 Knots) which gave us a dappled water surface and this did cut down the glare somewhat.
Sail choice was fairly easy. A “C” could have done well in the gusts but a “B” was well needed in the lulls.
We chose “B”.
Fifteen DAC Sailors came along for a good day’s racing. There was much keen competition on the water with placings and high finishes going right down the page, (except the wins).
With the course set in front of the Deck, the starts were keenly contested and infringements were easily detected, guilty of one!
Our Champion of the day and uncontested, was Peter Burton. Peter scored all wins and had to drop a second and third place, his score was a perfect seven. Graham Brown took the unusual role of being in Peter’s shadow for most of the day. A win and 4 second places comfortably secured 17 points and second place for the day. Judy Evans led the rest of the fleet to come home in third place. Judy’s score of 33 points was the start of many well contested finishes. With the wins all gone (except for Stephen Deane in race 1) and few second places left, the following points were quite close.
The closeness of boats on each leg set the stage for many tight finishes. One lapse of concentration could cost a few finishing positions and one’s final place on the day.
Good to see our newer Member, Tom Dwan completing quite a few races. This is not an easy task for entry into RC sailing as all will confirm.
Race winners were Peter Burton 7, Graham Brown 1 and Stephen Deane 1.
Peter Burton took the honours for the day to win 1st place on 7 points.
Graham Brown finished in 2nd place on 17 points.
Judy Evans finished in 3rd place with 33 points.
The Club Championship now has Graham Brown in front from Phil Stevenson and Judy Evans.
Our next Sail day is Thursday 25th July for a Scratch Event.
