Another good set of numbers for our Scratch racing yesterday with 18 Sailors attending.

The conditions again were pretty good, we are being spoilt at the moment.

We enjoyed clear skies and a gentle Nor’Easter which ranged from 5 to 15 Km/Hr., (3 to 8 Knots) and a temperature of 27^oC

B and C sails were mostly used although some A ‘s ventured out for the earlier races.

Good to see Steve Crewes who called in for a visit.

Our thanks to Jill Brown who also came along and did our scoring for us.

It was a successful day and considering the size of the fleet, all went well.

As one Race Officer commented, “ everyone seems so well behaved”. That was an earlier race though.

There was much competing with many positions changing throughout the day’s racing. The wind speed did vary around the bottom gate which had our B sails struggling. Once clear it was a good challenge on the long leg to windward.

The increasing breeze brought some C’s out with varying success.

Phil Stevenson managed to set a good pace early. Phil won 2 races and with 4 places he won the day comfortably, scoring 17 points. Robin Tickner put his new sunglasses to good use. Now able to see the marks, Robin won race 2 and had 2 places, the rest of his finishes in the front group of Sailors. Robin came second with a score of 29 points. Martin Thearle led the rest of the fleet with a score of 32 points. Martin had 2 firsts to come third and he managed to just stay ahead of many who closely followed.

All  boats sailed well at some stage of the day. The points separating from second place and on were quite close. Wins and places were well spread with many enjoying a front end finish at some stage of the day.

Race winners were Phil Stevenson 2, Tickner 1, Martin Thearle 2, Noel McPherson 2, Brian Chapman 1 and Rob Lowndes 1.

Phil Stevenson took the honours for the day to win 1st place on 17 points.

Robin Tickner finished in 2nd place on 29 points.

Martin Thearle finished in 3rd place with 32 points.

The Club Championship now has Graham Brown in front from Phil Stevenson and Robin Tickner.

Our next Sail day is Thursday 27^th March for a Scratch Event.
