DAC Results, Scratch Racing, Thu 22nd August 2024

Dobroyd RC Lasers 20240822

We got back into Club sailing yesterday after a busy State Titles Day last Sunday.

Fifteen DAC Sailors came along for our Scratch racing day.

A gentle, (occasionally very gentle), breeze was our lot for the day. It ranged from 0 to 21 Km/Hr., (0 to 11 Knots), swinging from the Northwest to Northeast. The temperature reached a very pleasant 22oC about 1:00pm.

We had several course sets. Graham Brown and Phil Stevenson revised these somewhat to allow us to have something sailable.

In the end, we sailed some starts and finishes downwind with some good reaching legs to enjoy.

“A” sails were the choice for the day. Some “B” ‘s had a look in but were quickly reholstered when the lulls reappeared.

The starts and successes depended greatly on the wind at the gun. The conditions were mastered by Graham Brown. With all finishes at 4 or better, Graham scored 12 points with 3 firsts to win the day. A little way behind was Phil Stevenson who came second with 2 wins and a place, scoring 18.5 points. Noel McPherson had three places and with all his finishes in the front group, Noel scored 21 points to come home in third place.

The following scores weren’t that far apart. Only a couple of points separated most of the remaining boats. Once again, every position at the finish does count in the final washup. Top three places went right down the page with Brendan Hones (a win), Bruce Paterson (a win), Martin Thearle (a win), Philip Hetherington, Bruce Hilliard, and Narelle Derwent all scoring well.

Race winners were Graham Brown 3, Phil Stevenson 2, Brendan Hones 1 and Bruce Paterson 1 and Martin Thearle 1.

Graham Brown took the honours for the day to win 1st place on 12 points.

Phil Stevenson finished in 2nd place on 18.5 points.

Noel McPherson finished in 3rd place with 21 points.

The Club Championship now has Graham Brown in front from Phil Stevenson and Noel McPherson.

Our next Sail day is Thursday 29th August for a Scratch Event.
