DAC Results, Scratch Racing, Thu 24th April 2025

Seventeen DAC Sailors enjoyed great conditions on the bay today.
Twenty-three degrees, a gentle Nor’Easter and fairly smooth waters.
Some gusts reached 17 Km/Hr., (9 Knots) so we mostly chose C sails.
Being the eve of ANZAC Day, we were treated to freshly home baked ANZAC biscuits by both Judy Evans and Paula Reilly.
Thank you ladies, a lovely surprise and you certainly do spoil us.
Thank you to Jill Brown who was our scoring lady for the day.
We tried a course variation for today’s racing.
Based on the IOM Fleet, we set two buoys to windward with a requirement to round either one from outside and commence the downwind leg from inside the gate.
This did ease our normal first mark congestion and worked well.
The scoresheet seemed like a Handicap day. So many different boats had placings and each achieved good results. The wins were, as expected, dominated by the top four Sailors of the day.
Peter Burton is our Champion with a winning score of 22 points. Peter managed to avoid the many congested mark roundings well and earned himself 2 wins and 2 places. There was a tight contest for second place. Martin Thearle scored 4 wins and 2 second places. This would normally be a winning score, alas. Today Martin scored 25 points and took second place after a countback. Graham Brown suffered mainsheet issues in race 9 but his 2 firsts and 3 second places gave Graham an equal score and third place after a countback.
Phil Stevenson got off to a good start with a win in race 2 but an unfortunate tangle later on dented his chances. Phil led the following fleet which had few points between each position. Places were taken by Phil, Rob Lowndes (2), Geoff Lucas (2), Stephen Deane, Lew Verdon and Trevor Bowden (2).
Race winners were Peter Burton 3, Martin Thearle 4, Graham Brown 2 and Phil Stevenson 1.
Peter Burton took the honours for the day to win 1st place on 22 points.
Martin Thearle finished in 2nd place on 25 points after a countback.
Graham Brown finished in 3rd place with 25 points.
The Club Championship now has Graham Brown in front from Phil Stevenson and Noel McPherson.
Our next Sail day is Thursday 1st May for a Handicap Event.
