Dobroyd RC Lasers 20260226

I must pay credit to “Accuweather” for the forecast and conditions today. Its mention of rain was spot on to commence at 3pm as we planned to finish.

The wind was mainly from the South East at 7 to 10 Km/Hr, gusting to 22, (4 to 6, gusts to 12 Knots) and a pleasant 26oC for the temperature.

There was a light sprinkle soon after we started racing but dry to 3.00pm.

There was a mix of A and B sails but some stayed with A’s for the day.

The tide was low which had our course set to the West and further out than normal.

A course change at start time and several rescues caused some delays resulting in only 6 races being completed.

The conditions were a little tricky as some of the gentle patches were quite gentle. This caused quite a few position swaps at times.

Robin Tickner was back to his best to win the day. Robin had 2 firsts, a second and 3 thirds to score 10 points. Martin Thearle matched Robin for an equal 10 points with identical results. The countback was actually settled by the dropped races, giving Martin second place. Phil Stevenson scored 2 places to come home third and to lead the following field.

Bruce Paterson won race 1 and his 2nd in race 5 had him just off the podium for fourth place. There was a slight gap to Noel McPherson who won race 2. Scores after Noel were fairly close together with a countback for Lew Verdon and Richard Thorpe. Most places were taken by those in the front half of the fleet, the exceptions being Narelle Derwent coming 3rd in race 4 and Geoff Lucas a 3rd in race 6.

Race winners were Robin Tickner 2, Martin Thearle 2, Bruce Paterson 1 and Noel McPherson 1.

Robin Tickner took the honours for the day to win 1st place on 10 points.

Martin Thearle finished in 2nd place on 10 points.

Phil Stevenson finished in 3rd place with 21.5 points.

The Club Championship now has Martin Thearle in front from Phil Stevenson and Robin Tickner.

Our next Sail day is Thursday 5th March for a Handicap Event.
