Dobroyd RC Lasers 20260326

Sixteen DAC Sailors attended our Scratch racing yesterday.

We were quite lucky with the weather as the forecast suggested a good chance of rain. It remained dry for our sailing with the temperature reaching 32oC.

We started with a light Westerly which faded to a drifter after 2 races. Races 3 and 4 took ages to complete.

It was still very competitive with much close racing so we persevered to the end of each. After a short break our lovely and unexpected Nor’Easter raised its head. We stayed with our A sails and these were handled well ‘til the end of racing.

Thanks go to our deputised Race Officers, they had little to do, well done all!

Even with our drifting, we all managed some good and close starts. The top marks were a challenge as any light puffs on the windward leg disappeared for the roundings. There were many position changes as a result.

The winner of the first race and Champion of the day was Robin Tickner. Robin followed up with 3 places and a win in race 4 to score 15 points. Not far behind, Martin Thearle scored 17 points with his 2 firsts and 2 places. Phil Stevenson started slowly but hit his straps when the breeze came in. Phil scored 20 points with his 3 firsts.

There was a short gap to fourth place with Stephen Deane regaining some of his past form. Stephen had all his finishes at 5 or better. All the wins were taken by the first 3 boats with Stephen Deane, Brian Chapman, Judy Evans, Tim Alexander and Paula Reilly taking the remaining available places.

Well done to Tim Alexander, our newest RC Member. Tim is settling in well with a third in race 1 and a couple of mid fleet finishes.

Race winners were, Robin Tickner 2, Martin Thearle 2 and Phil Stevenson 3.

Robin Tickner took the honours for the day to win 1st place on 15 points.

Martin Thearle finished in 2nd place on 17 points.

Phil Stevenson finished in 3rd place with 20 points.

The Club Championship now has Martin Thearle in front from Phil Stevenson and Robin Tickner.

Our next Sail day is Thursday 2nd April for a Handicap Event.

Being the day before Good Friday and fuel shortages abound, sailing will be confirmed well beforehand.

I’ll then forward forecast details closer to the day.
