Dobroyd-RC-Lasers-20240627

Yet another good day for our RC Laser sailing.

Thirteen DAC sailors enjoyed a very pleasant day by the water. A light Westerly breeze, clear skies and although the temperature said 19oC, it felt like the mid 20’s on the Deck.

Setting a course should have been an easy task but the glare from the Winter’s sun came into play. We sailed to the East which had some partially obscured areas, but we could see our boats.

“B” sails for most.

Phil Stevenson and Graham Brown are our normal front runners, but they were joined by Bruce Hilliard to complete the top three.

Although Phil R.O. ’d the last race and scored 4.5, (half the number of finishers), a third was his lowest scoring place for the day. Two firsts and all places cemented a comfortable win. Graham, only a few points behind was always present and his 2 wins were by a significant distance. Bruce, back sailing after a break had forgotten none of his sailing skills. Bruce won the last race and scored 27.5 to come third.

Our Fleet is again showing a high quality and competitive standard. The starts are always close and there is no guarantee who will round the windward mark first. Many sailors are scoring well at some stage of the racing. Places went right down the page again. I even scored a win but must admit it was a Bradbury moment as the 3 or 4 in front decided to intermesh.

Race winners were Phil Stevenson 2, Graham Brown 2, Bruce Hilliard 1, Noel McPherson 2, Stephen Deane 2 and Brian Chapman 1.

Phil Stevenson took the honours for the day to win 1st place on 18.5 points.

Graham Brown finished in 2nd place on 23.5 points.

Bruce Hilliard finished in 3rd place with 27.5 points.

The Club Championship now has Graham Brown in front from Phil Stevenson and Robin Tickner.

Our next Sail day is Thursday 4th July for a Handicap Event.
