DAC Results, Scratch Racing, Thu 27th March 2025

Fifteen Sailors attended our Scratch sailing yesterday.
The weather was certainly on our side. There was a very heavy downpour late morning which cleared as we neared the Club.
As forecast, an Easterly breeze appeared right on race time. It ranged between 3 and 15 Km/Hr, (2 to 8 knots). The Sun peeped out a few times and gave us a temperature in the mid 20’s.
Most sail sizes had a run at some time during racing.
Thank you to Mick Costa who volunteered for some race scoring.
There was a clear winner for the day. Phil Stevenson won 3 races and with 4 seconds, scored a mere 11 points. Robin Tickner had a first and 5 places to score 20 points and secure a comfortable second place. Judy Evans won race 8 and with 2 second places scored 28 points. All Judy’s finishes were well inside the front group of sailors. Martin Thearle is a consistent front runner. A win and many high finishes gave Martin 29 points, just off the podium for a fourth.
The strength of our sailing was well on display yesterday with wins or places going to the bottom of the scoresheet. Points separating all boats from third place and on were very close with 1 countback between Karen Paterson and Richard Thorpe.
This indicates that every finishing position counts. One or two places can make a difference on the day.
Race winners were Phil Stevenson 3, Robin Tickner 1, Judy Evans 1, Martin Thearle 1, Noel McPherson 2 and Bruce Paterson 1.
Phil Stevenson took the honours for the day to win 1st place on 11 points.
Robin Tickner finished in 2nd place on 20 points.
Judy Evans finished in 3rd place with 28 points.
The Club Championship now has Phil Stevenson in front from Graham Brown and Robin Tickner.
Our next Sail day is Thursday 3rd April for a Handicap Event.
