DAC Results, Scratch Racing, Thu 29th January 2026

What a glorious day for 16 DAC Sailors to enjoy our scratch racing yesterday.
Conditions were almost perfect with our preferred Nor’Easter. This slowly developed from 15 up to 26 Km/Hr., (8 to 14 Knots).
There was a light to moderate chop and a temperature which reached 26oC. The water was still a bit murky after recent heavy rains, but generally pretty good.
The sail choice was between B and C, with C sails preferred towards the end of racing.
Wins and places were spread right down the scoresheet. Many sailors scored well and there were only 2 DNF’s throughout the day.
Graham Brown hit his straps to win the day. Graham scored 18 points with his 3 wins and a place. Noel McPherson had all his finishes in the front group to comfortably lock in second place. Noel won race 1 and placed 4 times. Brian Chapman had success in race 6 and scored 29 points for third overall.
Many Sailors had some good results. From Rob Lowndes and on, the final points were fairly close together. Rob, Martin Thearle, Stephen Deane and Lew Verdon could have easily swapped places with a different place or two. Phil Stevenson was a little off his best but he comfortably won race 8 to help his score somewhat. Richard Thorpe got off to a great start with a 2nd in race 1. Narelle Derwent, likewise in race 3 with a 3rd. John Porter finished his day with some great results. John had a 3rd in race 8 and topped it off with his win in race 9. Judy Evans was below her best, but just managed to keep Geoff Lucas at bay despite Geoff’s 3rd in race 1. Trevor Bowden saved his best to last with a well earned 2nd in the final race. Peter Hirschl, although down the field is improving each week. Peter had some finishes about mid fleet in a day when all sailed well.
Race winners were Graham Brown 3, Noel McPherson 1, Brian Chapman 1, Rob Lowndes 1, Martin Thearle 1, Phil Stevenson 1 and John Porter 1.
Graham Brown took the honours for the day to win 1st place on 18 points.
Noel McPherson finished in 2nd place on 24 points.
Brian Chapman finished in 3rd place with 29 points.
The Club Championship now has Martin Thearle in front from Noel McPherson and Robin Tickner.
Our next Sail day is Thursday 5th February for a Handicap Event.
