Dobroyd RC Lasers 20240530

What a great day for RC sailing. Thirteen DAC Sailors came along to race yesterday for our Scratch Event.

A gentle Nor’Easter appeared just before race time. The windspeed ranged from 6 to 15 Km/Hr., (3 to 8 Knots) and we enjoyed a temperatures up to 23°C.

Some “A” sails had a look in at first but we all settled on “B” ‘s for the majority of races.

Graham Brown adjusted the initial course for the new breeze and that was it for the day. Ideal conditions had our sailing in front of the Deck.

There were only one or two rescues and some sail adjustments but we completed all 10 races in good time, well done All!

There was a much competition for top honours with Brendan Hones setting an early pace. Brendan won the practice race and took race 1. Graham Brown and Phil Stevenson excelled in the conditions and were neck and neck throughout the day. In the end, a countback decided that Graham won the day with an equal 20 points. It took a first place in race 10 to declare him the winner. Phil was always there and with 2 wins and 4 second places to earn second overall. Brendan completed the top 3 with 2 wins and 3 places, coming third for the day and scoring 22 points. These three gents took most of the wins and places leaving little for the rest of us, and there was a fair gap to the next boats.

The remaining wins and places were shared by Martin Thearle (a win) , Robin Tickner, Judy Evans, Bruce Paterson, Karen Paterson (a win), Barry McCarthy and Brian Chapman.

Race winners were Graham Brown 4, Phil Stevenson 2, Brendan Hones 2, Martin Thearle 1 and Karen Paterson 1.

Graham Brown took the honours for the day to win 1st place on 20 points, settled by a countback.
Phil Stevenson finished in 2nd place on equal 20 points.
Brendan Hones finished in 3rd place with 22 points.

The Club Championship now has Graham Brown in front from Phil Stevenson and Robin Tickner.

A big thank you to Narelle Derwent for her Race Report for last week.

Our next Sail day is Thursday 6th June for a Handicap Event.
