DAC Results, Scratch Racing, Thu 30th October 2025

Thirteen DAC Sailors came along for some Scratch racing today.

The conditions were pleasant with a temperature hovering around 23oC and a Sou’Easter ranging from 5 up to 22 Km/Hr., (3 to 12 Knots).

B sails were chosen with A’s for the last race.

There were quite a few patches with the wind coming from all directions. Planning one’s course to avoid the lulls was a challenge. Many chose to sail wide to the windward mark.

Occasionally an ambitious move was right up the centre, risky but when it worked, it could be a great advantage.

Phil Stevenson had a great day and read the waters perfectly. Phil won the day with a score of only 9 points from his 3 firsts and 3 second places. Stephen Deane was next in line with 2 firsts to come home with a score of 16 points and a comfortable second place. It was good to see Rob Lowndes back in top form, Rob had good wins in races 1 and 3 to score 21 points and third place overall. Rob snuck in front of Noel McPherson to take the countback, Noel had 3 places for equal points and fourth place.

There was a small gap to the followers with Robin Tickner, Martin Thearle and Judy Evans snaring most of the remaining places. Lew Verdon burst to the front to win race 8 by a good margin to give him a satisfying day on the water.

Race winners were Phil Stevenson 3, Stephen Deane 2, Rob Lowndes 2 and Lew Verdon 1.

Phil Stevenson took the honours for the day to win 1st place on 9 points.

Stephen Deane finished in 2nd place on 16 points.

Rob Lowndes finished in 3rd place with 21 points, settled by a countback.

The Club Championship now has Graham Brown in front from Phil Stevenson and Martin Thearle.

Our next Sail day is Thursday 6th November for a Handicap Event.
