Well, what a day!
Thirteen brave DAC Sailors came along, all rugged up for a sail in very Wintery weather, what a great effort!
The Southerly ranged from 14 to 39 Km/Hr., (8 to 20 Knots). Our Deck is a blessing as we all stayed fairly dry with shielding from a couple of passing showers. Surprisingly enough, we had moments of sunshine which was nice on the face, the temperature reaching a meagre 12oC.
There was a reasonable argument for D sails with the forecast. C’s were the choice for all as there were some quiet patches.
With the National just 4 weeks away, (here at Dobroyd), many sailors showed their ability to feature well.
Phil Stevenson had an outstanding day with 6 wins to score 12 points. This was despite 2 DNF’s with a tangle and another issue.
There was a lot of daylight to second place. This was nicely taken by Rob Lowndes who did have a successful day scoring 32 points. Rob led a closely spaced group with 2 places and all his finishes towards the front. Martin Thearle had 2 wins to maintain his recent consistency and come home in third place. Graham Brown was always in contention with 4 places, just couldn’t crack his normal win or 2. Stephen Deane and Judy Evans completed the group of front-runners to each score 36 points, Stephen winning the countback with his 2 second places. Lew Verdon and Geoff Lucas had a win each and were only a finish or two away from higher placings.
It was a good day all round.
Race winners were Phil Stevenson 6, Martin Thearle 2, Lew Verdon 1 and Geoff Lucas 1.
Phil Stevenson took the honours for the day to win 1st place on 12 points.
Rob Lowndes finished in 2nd place on 32 points.
Martin Thearle finished in 3rd place with 33 points.
The Club Championship now has Graham Brown in front from Phil Stevenson and Noel McPherson.
Our next Sail day is Thursday 7th August for a Handicap Event.
