DAC Results, Scratch Racing, Thu 9th January 2025

DAC RC Lasers welcomed in the New Year with our first race day for 2025.
Thirteen Sailors come along for our Scratch racing. The weather forecast was marginal but it stayed dry.
The wind was a Southerly at 18 to 37 Km/Hr., (10 to 19 Knots) and a temperature which hovered around 25oC.
“C” sails were the choice for the day, although a “D” had a brief look in.
The course was set to the West of the Club and needed no changing. With very few rescues required, we easily completed 10 races in good time.
Thanks to Mick Costa who assumed the role of Race Officer, he had a difficult task as he detected many infringements. Hmmm!
The gusty conditions did make things a little tricky at times.
The first race of the year was won by Martin Thearle. Wins and places went right down the scoresheet with many hitting their straps and scoring well.
Graham Brown shook off his Christmas well to win the day comfortably, scoring 21 points. His late start was no hinder as Graham proceeded to win 4 and place in 2 other races. Noel McPherson also started his year nicely with 4 places. Noel came home second with a score of 32 points. Geoff Lucas completed the podium to take third place on 35 points. The following group of Robin Tickner, Stephen Deane, Martin Thearle and Rob Lowndes featured heavily with many wins and places between them. Their finishes were mostly in the front half of the fleet.
Many Sailors had their hot moments, with Brian Chapman, Philip Hetherington, Lew Verdon and John Porter snaring a place or two during the day.
Race winners were Graham Brown 4, Geoff Lucas 1, Stephen Deane 2, Martin Thearle 2 and Brian Chapman 1.
Graham Brown took the honours for the day to win 1st place on 21 points.
Noel McPherson finished in 2nd place on 32 points.
Geoff Lucas finished in 3rd place with 35 points.
The Club Championship now has Graham Brown in front from Noel McPherson and Geoff Lucas.
Our next Sail day is Thursday 16th January for a Scratch Event.
It was pleasing to see the recent addition to our Life Member Honour Board.
This has now been completed with Noel McPherson joining the list of our present and past, honoured Club Members.
