DAC Results, Scratch Racing, Thu 9th October 2025

We had 16 Sailors yesterday for our Scratch Event.
The weather was perfect for a good sailing day.
The Nor’Wester was fluctuating somewhat but ranged from 12 to 35 Km/Hr., (7 to 18 Knots) and we enjoyed 28oC.
An overcast sky saved us from any sun glare and we sailed on a full tide (mostly).
The tide range was quite large with a 1 Mtrs. drop over 2 hours. The only difficulty was retrieving our buoys and gear at the end of the day on the receding tide!
B sails were chosen with a few C’s by the end of racing.
Our top markers had a very competitive day with much keen racing. All wins and most places stayed within the top 5 boats.
Graham Brown mastered the conditions with 3 firsts and 3 places to score 17 points. Graham won the day. Martin Thearle has consistently scored highly to now be the one to beat. Martin had 4 firsts and 2 places to come home in second place with 19 points. (You’d think 4 firsts might be enough, but…). Phil Stevenson was a very strong contender and with his 2 firsts and 2 places scored 27 points. Phil had a battle with Graham and Martin but was left in third place.
Stephen Deane had many of his finishes towards the front with 4 places to earn 4th. Stephen just managed edging out Robin Tickner by a point. Robin had a first in Race 5. Noel McPherson featured nicely in all his races with most finishes between 3rd and 6th. There was a close group next with Rob Lowndes (just back from his World conquering success in Italy), Geoff Lucas and Judy Evans. There were slim pickings for the rest. We all made many sail adjustments during the day with many improvements being successful.
Race winners were Graham Brown 3, Martin Thearle 4, Phil Stevenson 2 and Robin Tickner 1.
Graham Brown took the honours for the day to win 1st place on 17 points.
Martin Thearle finished in 2nd place on 19 points.
Phil Stevenson finished in 3rd place with 27 points.
The Club Championship now has Graham Brown in front from Phil Stevenson and Martin Thearle.
Our next Sail day is Thursday 16th October for a Scratch Event.
