It was a great day to be sailing yesterday. Fifteen DAC sailors enjoyed Summer conditions.

We had an increasing Nor’Easter on fairly smooth waters and a very pleasant temperature in the low 20’s.

As we mostly prefer, the course was able to be set in front of the Deck. We needed a minor change later as the wind veered a few degrees.

“B” sails started the day but were short-lived as “C” ‘s were better suited for the increasing breeze.

Peter Close, #214,  visited us from the mid North to have a sail and offer his 2 boats and gear for those interested. Always good to see Peter here as he is a very competitive sailor.

It’s been a while to see a moderate spread of points after the winner, but yesterday was it.

Robin Tickner has had all traces of his jet-lag removed as he blitzed the field to score first place with 8 points. Robin ended up with 4 wins and 2 second places. The perennial Graham Brown kept Robin on his toes with a win and mostly places to score 16 points, coming home second. Brendan Hones is continually improving and always seems to be up towards the front in our very competitive fleet. Brendan scored a win and 3 places to finish third with 19 points. Places went about half way down the scoresheet with wins going to Stephen Deane and Phil Stevenson. Rob Lowndes, Geoff Lucas, Martin Thearle and Philip Hetherington took the remaining places.

There was some weed appearing towards the end of play as the breeze increased. Very frustrating to see one’s boat suddenly stop for no visible reason, but that’s sailing. Several boats were affected.

Race winners were Robin Tickner 4, Graham Brown 1, Brendan Hones 1, Stephen Deane 1 and Phil Stevenson 1.

Robin Tickner took the honours for the day to win 1st place on 8 points.

Graham Brown finished in 2nd place on 16 points.

Brendan Hones finished in 3rd place with 19 points.

The Club Championship now has Graham Brown in front from Phil Stevenson and Martin Thearle.

Our next Sail day is Thursday 24^th October for a Scratch Event.
