The 2022 Ian Hayden 10 Rater Trophy

On Sunday 19th of June 2022, the Ian Hayden 10R Trophy was held at Kogarah Bay Sailing Club and hosted by Kogarah Bay Radio Yacht Club.  This regatta is normally round one of the NSW 10R GP series and is held annually in January each year to celebrate the considerable contribution made by the late Ian Hayden to radio sailing, the NSWRYA and KBRYC.

Unfortunately, this year, due to the terrible NSW floods and storms, the event was postponed from January until June and shortened to a one-day event. To enable skippers to have 2 days racing, a postponed Marblehead GP was held on the Saturday which enabled skippers to sail “back-to-back” events.

The event attracted a hot fleet of 16 boats including competitors from Queensland, Victoria, and the ACT. The weather gods smiled, and it was a great day for sailing with a steady S to SE breeze of 10 to 15 knots with a small Kogarah Bay chop and no weed.

Once again Scott Condie, Steve Sedgmen and Andrew Reid continued their close battle from the NSW 10R States and had a terrific fight at the front of the fleet. Scott again prevailed by 4 points over Steve with Andrew 24 points astern.

See the full results below. All skippers had a fun day and left with smiles on their faces. Owen Jarvis was the MC for the presentation ceremony and welcomed Ian’s wife Barbara, and son Brett to award the trophy and medals.  Thankyou Barbara and Brett, we really appreciate your continuing support of this annual event.

L to R: Steve Sedgmen 2nd, Barbara Hayden, Scott Condie1st, Brett Hayden, Andrew Reid 3rd
