DAC Results, Scratch Racing, Thu 12th Jan 2023

Dobroyd-RC-Lasers-20230112

Summer continued yesterday with ideal weather for our Racing.

Seventeen DAC Sailors came along for our first Scratch Racing day of the year.

We enjoyed a slowly increasing Nor’Easter on a light chop. The wind speed was mostly steady around 20 with the odd gust to 30 Km/Hr (11-16 Knots).

The light overcast made the Sailing very pleasant indeed.

Once again there was no decision on Sail choice, “C” ‘s all round, although there was an occasional whisper of “maybe a “B” “.

We welcome our new RC Member, Martin Thearle #362 whose expertise is windsurfing with the Club. Also good to see Cliff Bromiley back with us after a break.

Congratulations to the winner of the day’s racing, Noel McPherson. Noel had only 2 wins, but when you back that up with 5 second places the result is clear. Phil Stevenson has also continued his top form. Five wins and a second is normally enough but early gear issues were the decider, Phil came home in second place by a couple of points. Robin Tickner had another good day on the water, his win and all high finishes gave him third place. These top three Sailors were well clear with a fair gap to the rest.

The points were not that far apart for those following. The remaining wins were taken by Peter Close and Geoff Lucas.

Peter Close is always a contender for the top group, particularly at the starts. Places went well down the page with Rob Lowndes, Bruce Paterson, Phil Hetherington and Judy Evans taking a top three finish at some stage.

The quality of the Fleet is such that on their day, anyone has a good chance of scoring well.

Race winners were Noel McPherson 2, Phil Stevenson 5, Robin Tickner 1, Peter Close 1 and Geoff Lucas 1.

Noel McPherson took the honours for the day to win 1st place on 16 points.

Phil Stevenson finished in 2nd place on 19.5 points.

Robin Tickner finished in 3rd place with 29 points.

The Club Championship now has Noel McPherson in front from Phil Stevenson and Robin Tickner.

Our next Sail day is Thursday 19th January for a Scratch Event.
