DAC Results, Scratch Racing, Thu 28th March 2024

Dobroyd RC Lasers 20240328

We had thirteen DAC Sailors for our Scratch racing today.

The weather forecast was again pretty close to the mark. We had a mostly overcast sky with a South/South East breeze at 9 to 12 Km/Hr with gusts to 26, (5 to 7 Knots, gusts to 14). The temperature hovered around the mid 20’s. In all, it was a very pleasant day by the water.

We all chose “B” sails for the racing.

The scoresheet told the story.

Graham Brown and Phil Stevenson were neck and neck all day with Graham’s one extra win being the decider. The conditions gave us some holes about the centre of the course. The Western side had a steadier breeze but the path to the windward marks was longer so one had to take a chance. Several times, Graham chose the direct path and made quite a bit of ground upwind to take a strong position for the next lap. Phil just had boat speed and was able to work through the Fleet to earn his second place for the day. There was a moderate gap to the next boats. Noel McPherson was the only other to win a race. Martin Thearle had a good day on the water to score equal points to Noel with Noel taking third place by a countback.

Richard Thorpe and Judy Evans secured middle positions with Bruce Paterson taking three places. Philip Hetherington and Lew Verdon snared the remaining two places which left little for the remaining boats.

Judy Evans supplied a delightful box of Easter chocolates for all and our scoring was done by David Moont. Thank you Judy and David.

Race winners were Graham Brown 5, Phil Stevenson 4  and Noel McPherson 1.

Graham Brown took the honours for the day to win 1st place on 12 points.

Phil Stevenson finished in 2nd place on 15 points.

Noel McPherson finished in 3rd place with 35 points settled by a countback.

The Club Championship now has Graham Brown in front from Phil Stevenson and Robin Tickner.

Our next Sail day is Thursday 4th April for a Handicap Event.
