Dobroyd-RC-Lasers-20230330

Yesterday turned out to be a lovely Autumn day for fourteen DAC Sailors.

The temperature hovered around 24oC. We enjoyed mostly clear skies and a breeze from the West at 15 with gusts to 44 Km/Hr, (8-23 Knots).

The start line only just coped as the wind backed to the Southwest on occasions and then veered straight back to the West again.

“C” sails were chosen. A couple of “B” ‘s made their way onto the pontoon but were never fitted.

We welcome our new Member Cameron Townshend sailing #130, a very nice boat with a good Club record.

Graham Brown sat out Race 1 while assisting others with electronic and setup issues. His final score was unaffected as he was able to drop this and his Race Officer score. Graham went on to win 5 and score 3 second places to very comfortably win the day. Peter Close returned after a short break. Having not lost any of his prowess, Peter led the remaining Fleet with a win and 5 places to finish second overall. Brendan Hones had another good day on the water. Brendan won Race 1 and his 4 places secured him third spot. The top three Gents were unchallenged with a fair gap to the following positions. There were many good performances over the day’s racing. High finishes once again went well down the scoresheet.

Martin Thearle has only sailed a few times with us and scored his first win, a great effort on a scratch day. Barry McCarthy, Richard Thorpe, Phillip Hetherington and Judy Evans all scored well, with Ian Spencer nicely winning Race 3.

Race winners were Graham Brown 5, Peter Close 1, Brendan Hones 1, Martin Thearle 1, Brian Chapman 1 and Ian Spencer 1.

Graham Brown took the honours for the day to win 1st place on 11 points.

Peter Close finished in 2nd place on 25 points.

Brendan Hones finished in 3rd place also with 27.5 points.

The Club Championship now has Noel McPherson in front from Graham Brown and Philip Hetherington.

Our next Sail day is Thursday 6th April for a Handicap Event.
