Dobroyd-RC-Lasers-20240509

Twelve Sailors had their faith in forecasts justified today. It rained heavily before we arrived, it stopped and the sun even made an appearance, and it stayed dry.

The breeze was from South East so a course was set a fair way out to catch the meagre bits available. The wind speed ranged from 3 to 11 Km/Hr., (2 to 6 Knots). At 20°C it wasn’t too bad for late Autumn.

We tried “A” sails for the practice race, but some darker patches had us all using “B”‘s for the rest of the afternoon.

There were the usual calm patches (with this direction), so the best path to the windward mark was quite a distance out.

The only way to read the wind patterns on the water was to toss a coin and hope.

The winner for the day was Phil Stevenson with a score of 12 points, well ahead of the rest. Phil had some starts towards the back but still managed to work his way through the fleet to earn 3 wins and 2 places. Graham Brown came home in second place with 21 points. A win and 2 places wasn’t a bad score on a tricky day with very tight competition throughout the fleet. Stephen Deane led the rest of the boats to earn third place. Two places and mostly high finishes secured 25 points for Stephen.

The following scores were again close. On any Scratch racing day, any Sailor can score well and win a race. Places went right down the page.

Race winners were Phil Stevenson 3, Graham Brown 1, Martin Thearle 1, Noel McPherson 1 and Philip Hetherington 1.

Phil Stevenson took the honours for the day to win 1st place on 12 points.

Graham Brown finished in 2nd place on 21 points.

Stephen Deane finished in 3rd place with 25 points.

The Club Championship now has Phil Stevenson in front from Graham Brown and Robin Tickner.

Our next Sail day is Thursday 16th May for a Scratch Event.
