DAC Results, Scratch Racing, Thu 11th May 2023

Dobroyd-RC-Lasers-20230511

We sailed a Scratch Event yesterday which was enjoyed by 16 DAC sailors.

We had Summery conditions, mostly clear skies, a varying Easterly breeze and temperature around the low 20’s.

Our first 2 Races were almost drifters. After these the breeze set in and our choice of “A” sails became “B” ‘s for the remainder.

Robin Tickner set a blistering pace at the start for wins in the first three Races. Robin was closely shadowed by the perennial Graham Brown, who grabbed 3 second places in his first three scoring Races. The contest continued with almost all wins and places for them both. Just one 5th (out of 16 boats) settling the day’s scoresheet giving Graham first place by one point. Noel McPherson was the main challenger. He patiently waited for either to make a mistake, which unfortunately for Noel, never happened. Noel came a comfortable third on the day to lead a very competitive field of Sailors.

Rob Lowndes deserves a special mention. Rob completed a very full day starting with golf in the morning, lunch to follow and then RC sailing. He arrived for the last three Races to take 2 fifths and a win in the last. He probably had something else on afterwards to fill his day. Peter Close just couldn’t get a leg in, but hit his top form for a win in Race 4.

Places once again went well done the page, many Sailors scored well as the day progressed. There were a couple of ties which again showed the importance of one’s position in every Race.

Race winners were Graham Brown 2, Robin Tickner 4, Peter Close 1 and Rob Lowndes 1.

Graham Brown took the honours for the day to win 1st place on 11 points.

Robin Tickner finished in 2nd place on 12 points.

Noel McPherson finished in 3rd place with 24 points.

The Club Championship now has Graham Brown in front from Noel McPherson and Robin Tickner.

Our next Sail day is Thursday 18th May for a Scratch Event.
