DAC Results, Scratch Racing, Thu 18th August 2022

Dobroyd RC Lasers 20220818

It was almost Spring for our sailing yesterday and 18 DAC Sailors came along to enjoy it all.

We had a light Northerly breeze, a bit of warming Sun and a record equalling turnout.

“A” sails were the popular choice with a few “B” ‘s towards the end.

Some technical issues hampered a couple of boats but they were resolved and many races had all boats finish.

Light winds always throw out a challenge and positions changed regularly in all Races.

Completing the Scoresheet is interesting in itself as the positions vary. Phil Stevenson looked to be having an unusually off day after 2 Races. Phil found that something extra and continually moved forward to reach number one by the finish. Phillip Hetherington is featuring more into the front runners and completed his day in second place. Graham Brown who is always the one to watch, be it sail choice or the path to take, had a mixed day. Having Graham behind you is always a test and he very difficult to hold off. Graham finished third. Bruce Hilliard scored well with 2 seconds and all his finishes in the top half.

Many positions were decided by the Races you drop, they all count in the washup.

The top eight boats had only a couple of points between them with some countbacks. Places went well down the page.

Race winners were Phil Stevenson  3, Phillip Hetherington 2, Rob Lowndes 1, Noel McPherson 1 and Terry Hey 1.

Phil Stevenson took the honours for the day to win 1st place on 19 points.

Phillip Hetherington finished in 2nd place on 20 points.

Graham Brown finished in 3rd place with 29 points.

The Club Championship now has Graham Brown in front from Phil Stevenson and Peter Close.

We have our NSW State Championship on this Sunday 21st at Dobroyd Aquatic Club, first Race at 10.00am.

Our next Club Sail day is Thursday 25th for a Scratch Event.
