DAC Results, Scratch Racing, Thu 24th August 2023

Eleven DAC Sailors came along for our racing yesterday.

We had an overcast day which kept the temperature down to 19oC. The wind was mostly a Nor’Easter with speeds from 5 to 21 Km/Hr, (3 to 12 Knots).

“A” sails were chosen by all.

The wind was occasionally shaded by the Clubhouse and this gave us a challenge to select which downwind gate mark to choose. The port mark was risky, but worthwhile if you got away with it.

Graham Brown read this well on many occasions, mostly selecting the starboard one. Graham continued his form from the weekend with 5 firsts and a second place to win the day. Robin Tickner, we welcomed back after a lengthy break. Robin put his jet-lag aside to win race 7 and comfortably secure second place for the day.

Also fresh from the weekend’s sailing, Philip Hetherington scored 4 places to claim 3rd overall.

One had to sail well to finish well. Peter Close with 3 places and all high finishes again did so consistently. Noel McPherson won race 6 and seemed to have put previous boat issues aside. Judy Evans worked her way well forward as the progressed and nicely won race 8. Bruce Hilliard and Ian Spencer also had some good finishes.

Race winners were Graham Brown 5, Robin Tickner 1, Noel McPherson 1 and Judy Evans 1.

Graham Brown took the honours for the day to win 1st place on 7 points.

Robin Tickner finished in 2nd place on 14 points.

Philip Hetherington finished in 3rd place also with 20 points.

The Club Championship now has Graham Brown in front from Noel McPherson and Brian Chapman.

Our next Sail day is Thursday 31st August for a Scratch Event.
