Dobroyd RC Lasers 20221124

Fifteen DAC Sailors had a sail in our Scratch Racing Event today.

We enjoyed sunny skies and a developing Nor’Easter as the day progressed. Some weed and leaves snared a few boats on several occasions.

The wind was all over the place in the beginning, favouring a light Westerly, but as above, our Summer breeze appeared.

“B” sails started the day, but all changed to “C” ‘s after Race 4.

Welcome to our new Member, Peter Finlay. Peter has taken the reins of #130, previously sailed very nicely by Tony Platt.

It was a thinking day on the water. Gates at either end tended to thin out the Fleet, but not always. There were quite a few nudges and tangles at the upwind marks. Those who sat back from the mess were able to skirt around and improve several places. The wind direction was fairly constant but the speed varied greatly. Even the “B” sails struggled in some light patches with “C” ‘s shining in the gusts.

Graham Brown enjoyed great success. Graham behind you is always a challenge and he found many ways to slip past many boats. Four wins and three places scored 10.9 for Graham, placing him first for the day. A little way back in second place, Phil Stevenson scored two firsts and two second places. Race eight for Phil was by a very clear margin. Noel McPherson won two races also by considerable margins and backed those with three places to earn third place for the day.

The remaining places went quite a way down the page with few points between them.

Race winners were Graham Brown 4, Phil Stevenson 2, Noel McPherson 2 and Brian Chapman 1.

Graham Brown took the honours for the day to win 1st place on 10.9 points.

Phil Stevenson finished in 2nd place on 19 points.

Noel McPherson finished in 3rd place with 20.3 points.

The Club Championship now has Graham Brown in front from Phil Stevenson and Robin Tickner.

Our next Sail day is Thursday for a Handicap Event.
