DAC Results, Scratch Racing, Thu 27th April 2023

Back to Summer yesterday for our Scratch Event.

Twenty DAC Sailors came along to enjoy ideal conditions.

A peak temperature of 24oC was accompanied by a beautiful Nor’Easter. Its speed ranged from 10 to 20 Km/Hr with the odd gust to a max of 27, (6 to 11 gusting to 14 Knots).

We chose a mix of “B” and “C” sails for the day’s racing.

Once again, thank you to those who accepted Race Officer duties.

Phil Stevenson returned from last week’s stint on the sidelines due to boat issues, with a convincing win. Three firsts and three seconds gave Phil 9 points to comfortably take first place. Near contenders were Stephen Deane and Graham Brown. Three firsts and a second place and with his remaining races in the top group gave Stephen second overall. Graham Brown was well-matched by Phil and Stephen. Two firsts in the last two races and a second place also gave Graham 16 points, a countback resolving these positions. Every scoring race by the top three was 6 or better, out of a Fleet of 20 boats. Champion sailing there! Noel McPherson and Brendan Hones were the only challengers. Although neck and neck for most of the day, a countback separated their positions into fourth and fifth.

The remaining places didn’t go too far down the page. Rob Lowndes, Robin Tickner, Bruce Paterson and Bruce Hilliard managed to grab a few.

Race winners were Phil Stevenson 3, Stephen Deane 3, and Graham Brown 2.

Phil Stevenson took the honours for the day to win 1st place on 9 points.

Stephen Deane finished in 2nd place on 16 points.

Graham Brown finished in 3rd place also with 16 points, settled by a countback.

The Club Championship now has Graham Brown in front from Noel McPherson and Brendan Hones.

Our next Sail day is Thursday 4th May for a Handicap Event.
