Dobroyd RC Lasers 20220519

Yesterday, 9 DAC Sailors attended our Scratch Event.

The weather was mostly fine with the temperature hovering around 20 Degs.

The wind however was a great challenge. It ranged from South West through to the East at 3 to 17 Km/Hr, (2 to 9 Knots).

“A” sails were the only option as we were tested with many calm areas. At one stage, the challenge was to see who could drift the fastest in reverse. This gave us a long day and we called it quits after 8 Races.

The Course was set with 2 marks at each end. The starting direction was reversed several times as the wind direction varied. This worked well and saved resetting the Course which does take some time.

The Racing seemed to be a bit of a lottery at first as boats were all over the place, with many positions continually changing. As they say “the cream rises to the top” and the top scoring was dominated by Robin Tickner, Graham Brown and Noel McPherson. Robin has his boat back to its best and scored 5 wins and 3 seconds, a shame to drop 2 second places in the washup! Graham was on Robin’s heels all day, unfortunately the echo “87, penalty complete” was heard too often, and the final scores reflected this.

After Robin and Graham had taken the spoils, Noel McPherson picked up most of the remaining places with 2 seconds and 2 thirds. Following these three Gents, the left over places were spread amongst the rest of us.

Race winners were Robin Tickner 5 and Graham Brown 3.

Robin Tickner took the honours for the day to win 1st place on 7 points.

Graham Brown finished in 2nd place on 14 points.

Noel McPherson finished in 3rd place with 17 points.

The Club Championship now has Graham Brown in front from Phil Stevenson and Robin Tickner.

Our next Sail day is Thursday 26th for a Scratch Event.
