DAC Results, RC Lasers Scratch Racing, Thu 13th July 2023

Dobroyd-RC-Lasers-20230713

The weather today was beautiful. A Winter’s day, 20oC, glassy water, light winds and clear skies.

Our DAC Weather Station recorded a North Westerly at 3 to 13 Km/Hr (2 to 7 Knots) with the occasional “doldrums”.

Eleven Sailors came along for our Scratch Racing. We even had to reach for the sunscreen as the temperature reached its forecast.

“A” sails were the choice of the day.

Low numbers, compared to recent times gave us a relaxed atmosphere, and plenty of room on the Course to practise our sailing skills.

Laying a Course was quite a bit of guesswork. We managed by setting out all our marks and nominating those to be used for before each Race.

Today’s winner was Graham Brown, scoring 11 points. Three firsts and three places gave Graham a convincing win. Peter Close enjoyed the light conditions to come home in second place. Peter’s first and 3 second places gave him a comfortable 15 points. Bruce Hilliard had another good day on the water. A first and all finishes in the front group was just good enough to secure third place on a countback, Bruce’s points totalled 24. Phil Stevenson equalled 24 points with some front half finishes, the dreaded countback struck again to give him fourth place. Martin Thearle had a good win in Race 5 with Noel McPherson sniffing out some good breeze  to sail clear of the Fleet and win Race 6.

With only 7 Races sailed due to the light winds, 1 Race was dropped for the scoring.

Race winners were Graham Brown 3, Peter Close 1, Bruce Hilliard 1, Martin Thearle 1 and Noel McPherson 1.

Graham Brown took the honours for the day to win 1st place on 11 points.

Peter Close finished in 2nd place on 15 points.

Bruce Hilliard finished in 3rd place also with 24 points, settled by a countback.

The Club Championship now has Graham Brown in front from Noel McPherson and Phil Stevenson.

Our next Sail day is Thursday 20th July for a Scratch Event.
