Dobroyd RC Lasers 20230727

Fifteen DAC Sailors came along for our Scratch sailing yesterday.

The weather we enjoyed couldn’t get any better. The temperature bounced around 20oC with clear skies. An initial drifter developed into a delightful Spring type North Easterly at 6 to 10 Km/Hr, (3 to 6 Knots).

There was no decision as to sail choice, “A” ‘s were it.

The Course set was an outright guess at first, favouring the extremely light Nor’Wester. This was sailed in reverse for the second race as we waited for the breeze to settle.

Graham Brown seized the mantle and moved the marks to match the developing Nor’Easter. This was a good move as Graham then won the next five races.

His score was by far the best for the day. Matching his wins, Graham added a second place to total only 7 points and very good first overall.

Peter Close came in second. All high finishes including 1 place gave Peter 26 points and a fair margin to the followers.

There was very hot competition to settle third place. Judy Evans, Martin Thearle, Philip Hetherington and Geoff Lucas all scored 30 points. Judy’s win in Race 8 and a second gave her the nod to take third place on a countback. Martin won Race 1 and a third place in Race 5 moved him into fourth. Philip, a win and Geoff, two places, took the following positions, both finishing with some high places.

Ten places, only separated by 12 points is pretty close for a scratch day with top three finishes going well done the page.

It was good to see Steven Crewes who came along to give us all some encouragement.

Our thanks to Stephen Deane who unfortunately suffered a major servo issue at the start. Stephen assumed the role of Race Officer. His presence certainly smartened us up, to all our benefits.

Race winners were Graham Brown 5, Judy Evans 1, Martin Thearle 1 and Philip Hetherington 1.

Graham Brown took the honours for the day to win 1st place on 7 points.

Peter Close finished in 2nd place on 26 points.

Judy Evans finished in 3rd place also with 30 points, settled by a countback.

The Club Championship now has Graham Brown in front from Noel McPherson and Phil Stevenson.

Our next Sail day is Thursday 3rd August for a Handicap Event.
