DAC Results, Scratch Racing, Thu 15th June 2023

Dobroyd-RC-Lasers-20230615

Eighteen DAC Sailors came along for our Scratch Racing today.

For late Autumn, the conditions couldn’t get much better. The temperature struggled to reach 18oC and the predominately Westerly breeze hovered around 13 Km/Hr with gusts up to 27, (7 to 14 Knots). Our Deck is always a sun trap and its temperature must have reached the low 20’s by mid afternoon.

One side effect of clear skies is the afternoon glare which was in full force by the end of Racing. We managed with only a little complaining.

There were “B” sails all round although one or 2 “C” ‘s had a brief appearance.

Our Champion for the day was Peter Close. Two firsts and five places gave Peter a total of 18 points, a comfortable winning score. Not far behind in second place was Stephen Deane with 24 points. A first and five seconds in a Fleet of 18 boats is a pretty good result. Contesting the last place on the podium was Graham Brown with 25 points. Graham sat out Race 1 whilst helping with a Member’s gear setup. A noble gesture!

There was a little gap to fourth and fifth places. Robin Tickner and Brendan Hones took home quite a few places with a win for Brendan in Race 1. Phil Stevenson led the remainder of the Fleet with a win in Race 6. There were welcome shouts of joy with Narelle Derwent winning Race 9 in good style.

And of course a good mention for Rob Lowndes. Rob got it all together for a popular win in Race 10.

The scores started to bunch up as wins and places went right down the page, yet again.

Race winners were Peter Close 2, Stephen Deane 1, Graham Brown 3, Brendan Hones 1, Phil Stevenson 1, Narelle Derwent 1 and Rob Lowndes 1.

Peter Close took the honours for the day to win 1st place on 18 points.

Stephen Deane finished in 2nd place on 24 points.

Graham Brown finished in 3rd place also with 25 points.

The Club Championship now has Graham Brown in front from Noel McPherson and Robin Tickner.

Our next Sail day is Thursday 22nd June for a Scratch Event.
