DAC Results, Scratch Racing, Thu 29th Sept 2022

Dobroyd RC Lasers 20220929

Yesterday, thirteen DAC Sailors took a chance on the weather and came out on top.

The forecast Southerly was certainly there and ranged from 23 Km/Hr with a top gust of 56 (13-30 Knots). We remained dry with a rain shower towards the end.

No decisions were needed on sail selection as “D” ‘s were the answer.

The blustery conditions caused quite a few rescues with the odd tangle with boats and or marks, mainsheet separation or low voltage.

There seemed to be long periods with no racing but we still managed 8 Races in good time.

Phil Stevenson mastered the day’s Racing with a win in all 6 scoring Races, having to drop a second and third place. A score of only 6 points had Phil well clear of Graham Brown in second. Graham won the 2 remaining Races with 2 seconds and 2 thirds. These two Gents had their “D” sails drawing well all day and finished well in front of the Fleet. Peter Close, who is always a contender, finished alone in third with 3 places and all high finishes.

Noel McPherson, Robin Tickner, Karen Paterson and Phillip Hetherington completed the top group, taking all the remaining Places.

“D” sails are tricky to handle at the best of times. There were quite a few lulls between gusts during the day and to keep a boat still moving forward was a challenge.

Everyone had some good moments out on the Course at some stage.

Thank you to Barry McCarthy who took over the scoring when he ran out of volts after Race 2.

Race winners were Phil Stevenson 6 and Graham Brown 2.

Phil Stevenson took the honours for the day to win 1st place on 6 points.

Graham Brown finished in 2nd place on 12 points.

Peter Close finished in 3rd place with 20 points.

The Club Championship now has Graham Brown in front from Phil Stevenson and Peter Close.

Our next Sail day is Thursday 6th September for a planned Handicap Event.
