Dobroyd RC Lasers 20220616

Yesterday, sixteen DAC Sailors enjoyed a fine winter’s day by the water.

The temperature reached 21oC and the wind came from the Northwest, ranging from 7 up to 21 Km/Hr, (4 – 11 Knots).

Choosing a sail was a task, mostly “A” ‘s were used with some “B” ‘s appearing midway.

Our large numbers required the use of Race Officers. Many took a turn, with their task to concentrate on the starts and the first windward mark. They were kept quite busy during the day. Noel McPherson had to call 2 General Recalls, as everyone was keen to start at the gun minus 1 second. Start number 3 was successful. The term “Black Flag’ was mentioned, but not used. Thank you to those who participated as Race Officer, it does make for better racing.

Graham Brown rose to his top form with 5 wins and had to settle with 3 second places to be a clear winner. Robin Tickner is continuing his good form with 2 wins and 4 places. Robin came second overall. A comfortable third, Stephen Deane earned 2 wins and a couple of places, coming third, but was unfortunate towards the end. These 3 Sailors were well clear of the Fleet and also dominated the places. A relatively newer sailor to RC, Terry Hey is sailing well and won the remaining race. Terry had many high finishes and was well placed in position four.

Place getters went well down the page. Terry Hey, Philp Hetherington, Bruce Paterson, Judy Evans, Phil Stevenson, Ian Spencer, Bruce Hilliard and myself placed a foot on the podium at some stage. Bruce Hilliard had a good start to the day but things came undone soon after.

Race winners were Graham Brown 5, Robin Tickner 2, Stephen Deane 2, and Terry Hey 1.

Graham Brown took the honours for the day to win 1st place on 11 points.

Robin Tickner finished in 2nd place on 23 points.

Stephen Deane finished in 3rd place with 28 points.

The Club Championship now has Graham Brown in front from Phil Stevenson and Robin Tickner.

Our next Sail day is Thursday 23rd June for a Scratch  Event.
